Stone Hollow Creamery

In December, 2010, I discovered a delicious and perfectly unique Alabama goat cheese at Western Supermarket in Mountain Brook, Alabama--Goat Cheese in jars by Stone Hollow Creamery. This creamery is part of the Stone Hollow Farmstead in Harpersville, Alabama, just outside of Birmingham. The cheeses are artisanal and fresh (unaged), and are made of Grade A pasteurized goat milk with no added hormones, chemicals, or antibiotics. The farmstead implements sustainable farming practices to boot.
Stone Hollow cheese stood out for
its interesting packaging and rare flavor combinations. Each little jar contains
six ounces of goat cheese with infused oils and ingredients like olives, fruits,
honey, herbs, and spices. The jars that first caught my eye were Blackberry
& Wine and Vidalia & Muscadine. Both elegant and nostalgic, the names
made me think of fresh produce that my Tuscumbia grandmother had in her
kitchen...or homemade German wine that my Cullman aunt hid under her bed!

(I know, those aren't Vidalia onions nor
is that really Muscadine wine, but I had to make do with Jersey fare for this
photo.)

As it turns out, the owner of the farmstead, Deborah Stone, comes from a family of Alabama Blands. Quelle coincidence! I don't know that we are related, but I consider all Alabama goat cheese lovers as part of my family.
